Twilight, Travel, and Treats

Reflections of a Twihard on all things twilight, travel, and treats.

Don't you love it when life gives you little surprises?

I just met Stephenie Meyer today. Our national bookstore chain Chapters/Indigo hosted an event for The Host and it wasn't publicized until 2 days ago!!!

Thanks to my sister who convinced me that this was worth moving half a days worth of patients on a last minute basis. They were all very freaked out when I called them mysteriously from my cell phone on Saturday afternoon at their homes but relieved it was just to change appointment times.

The event was supposed to run from 5:30-9pm and I was surprised at 2pm that there were only 40 people in line. I guess it was a Monday and school wasn't out yet.

What to do in line at a book signing? Get to know the lovely girls around you (since you need a buddy to save your space while you hit the loo) and watch Twilight on the good old iPad.

The Chapters VP came by and took some footage of us for a fan video for Stephenie and also there was a guest book circulated to pass time. There were some door prizes and contests as well for Chapters gift cards.

For those of you who haven't been to a book signing before (like myself prior to this event), the staff walked us through every step of getting your books ready so you really can't screw up. They even write a sticky note with your name on it so you don't have to worry about blanking out in front of the author. I chose to leave my dust jackets at home for fear of wrinkling them and also to bring my hardcover Twilight from our trip to Volterra because it's actually the only hardcover copy of Twilight I have.

Stephenie came on right at 5:30pm. The first girl in line had been there since 9:45 the day before (not clear if it was am or pm but still!!). Luckily the first 50 people in line (including me!) got to take a posed shot with her and not just a candid.

When I told her I was a doctor and actually cancelled half my patients today on a last minute basis just to meet her she was shocked and laughed. Her response when I told her how worried I was that they might spot me on TV tonight was "just tell them that you were on an errand here and that there was some medical emergency in this store." She was very sweet.

Today felt extra special because ever since I had read New Moon I had wanted to write Stephenie Meyer a thank you letter. If any of you have read the one of my early posts "The Shameful Truth" you know New Moon meant a lot to me. The revelation that Bella has about her being worthy of Edward's love changed my life and perspectives about myself and my relationship. I never got the chance to write that letter to Stephenie because I thought it would get lost in the millions that she had.

Well today I got the chance to actually hand her a thank you card in person and express my gratitude face to face.

Driving home I kept thinking that I couldn't believe that this happened so quickly but then I remembered something Oprah had said. I had seen Oprah on stage last month in Vancouver (a Christmas present from my husband).

Oprah was right when she said, "There is no such thing as luck. There's only preparation meeting the moment of opportunity. When that opportunity comes you must be ready to meet it with an open hand and not a closed fist."

So happy...

So I missed it. I've been waiting all day for Rob pictures to see where he is in my city and I missed it. What happened? I got distracted by those blue people with tails because I finally had a chance to see a movie.

Mommy TC has come back into town from Hong Kong and took the kids off our hands so Mr. TC and I could go for dinner and a movie. By the way, Mommy TC theoretically doesn't know I have a blog. She knows I'm a Twihard though because she helped me set up for the Twilight dinner party last year.

Click to see the party these cupcakes were destined for.
Also yesterday she was in my walk in closet and asked me "do you still need this box?" and was motioning to throw it out. I immediately screamed "Oh my god, don't touch it. Edward's in there!"

Poor Edward is back in my closet now

I was busy crying my eyes out to Avatar when the newest Vancouver Rob pics came out today on Popsugar at 9:20pm.

Seriously could he have found a dirtier jacket?
Does Ralph Lauren make it this way?

I would love to know why this guy is and where he sells his stuff

Don't worry about the food Rob. It's good :)
So after some pondering, researching, and then "uh duh" moments I realized which restaurant in Vancouver that Rob was eating lunch at with his friend Sam Bradley. They have good food and even better beer (not that I know since I'm a vodka kind of girl). If you ever come through Vancouver I'll be happy to take you there some time.

Interesting that he was there with no security. This shocks me despite it being a Thursday afternoon. Don't they know there are crazy fan bitches who have the day off? Lucky for him the kids had too many activities today and I didn't have a chance to scour the city with MK (no, I'm not saying you are a crazy fan bitch, I was talking about the other people we see lurking on the street).

Anxiously awaiting to see if after tomorrow's day of shooting at the studio he looks clean shaven aka like he was actually trying to be Edward. There is no way he came here just to hang with Kristen :)

So why the title of the post? Well, Vancouver is notoriously gloomy and I'm sure that the re-shoot had to re-jig a bit to accommodate the suddenly nice weather.

You can see there is definitely sun shining on Rob from behind him. The guy arrives in town and the sun hasn't stopped shining. Are the skies reflecting my giddiness that I am that much closer to the Precious? The following pic from my iPhone tonight should tell you how happy the heavens are that Rob is here.

See the pink clouds? Even the angels are smiling on him
I really should put my guitar in the trunk just in case I spot him on the way to work and can get him to autograph it. That is what a good fan would do...until tomorrow.

Quick sidenote, I don't know who started calling our city The Couve but I don't like it. It's like calling San Francisco "Frisco" - it's just plain wrong. There is no nickname for Vancouver and we like it that way. Sorry but they don't call this British Columbia for nothing.

So despite all the pleadings of my bloggy friends I didn't drop all my patients for the day and hang out at Vancouver Airport. Once again, here is Rob leaving Heathrow. I am personally okay with the jacket because I forgive everyone for their clothing choices when they visit the Pacific Northwest. It can be freakin' miserable cold and rainy one moment and then a beautiful sunny day the next.

Everyone seems to hate on the puffy jacket.
(from Popsugar)

There was talk of re-shooting some meadow scenes that might have some sound interference but apparently those were just with Bella and Jacob. I am glad that today was sunny for them but wonder if they were expecting it. Unlikely since Eclipse looks exceptionally dark and twisty. Maybe they'll have to stay longer to wait for the rainy gloom.

Update - thanks to Twired Jen for reminding me to check my regular Vancouver celebrity sighting blogs that are posting more pics and info. Of course they post after the location is done with as to not raise all hell.

Happy to finally see some photos that he has arrived in town. The ones on Popsugar are non descript at best but at least we can identify that there is a Vancouver Police officer with him.

Once again, torn between wanting to know where he is so I can throw him in the back of my SUV ask him politely to sign my guitar (as suggested by Dangrdafne) and just leaving him alone so he can be in peace.

Yeah for MK offering to come with me this week to check out the Vancouver sights (eg. set stalk). I have the day off on Thursday sweetie so let's make it a date. Darn the kids and all their sports though, maybe I can take them with me instead...

Speaking of kids, my good friend BB gave my children a book yesterday. Apparently she was at a fundraiser for kids where they were selling gently used toys and books. Of all the things she could have bought them you know what she surprised them with?

Anyone recognize this book?

Yes, it's actually been on this blog already on my Remember Me props for sale post.

Get the f*ck out - same book!
Seriously. BB is not a twihard and I doubt she has ever heard of Remember Me. Yet of all the books in the world she could have bought for me (well for the kids originally) she chose that one.

I even remember during Remember Me when Tyler gives Caroline the book I think - what an awesome book, my boys would love it. Oh isn't that sweet that he's passed on something so meaningful.

Squeals with hugs and kisses to BB (yes, honey I made you read my blog and scroll all the way through a post - have you thrown up yet?) for being an intuitive sweetheart.

I hate to say it though - the book mysteriously disappeared off my sons shelf and magically ended up in my Twilight vault :)

Hoping for more Rob Vancouver sightings tomorrow...

So I am sitting at my desk at lunch and about to see my 1:30pm patient. I NEVER post from work and don't usually have time to eat lunch. Today is different. Somehow the Twilight gods are smiling on me and let me have enough time to check the web and also post!

So, PopSugar this am posted photos of Rob leaving Heathrow

(I don't have time to post the photos today in my super type A bloggy fashion so click the link above).

Question is - are these actually from yesterday and released a day late to throw off the paps?

Is he really already here in Vancouver?

After all, if Kristen is shooting a meadow scene today is he here with her? Or is she with Taylor reshooting the dream sequence where she imagines their kids?

What do you think?

Okay, back to work...

I must thank Twired Jen for sending me this email on Tuesday afternoon while I was at work.

Hey!
So KStew and Taylor were spotted leaving LAX at different times today to go to Vancouver to possibly re-shoot a couple scenes...YOU BETTER HUNT THEM DOWN GIRL!
xoxo J
Wow, that girl can be demanding! By the time I read her email and tweets I was already on my way home. If I had known they were coming today I would have considered cancelling my patients and camping out at the airport. But, I was okay to know that they were coming and that I might not see Kristen or Taylor.

I saw this first today on Twired Jen's blog

Then Twired Jen posted that they had indeed landed and we were speculating about why she looked so happy.

Also saw it today on Jen's blog.
Seriously never seen KStew this happy before.
How much liquor did she have on that flight?

Is it possible Kristen was so happy because a certain adorkable British guy would be coming to Vancouver too? I let Twired Jen know that if indeed Rob was in town that I would die.

Well, I am dead. According to the Pattinson Ladies on Facebook he has landed.

But I want proof. A picture of him at baggage claim or even a quick smoke outside his hotel. I don't want a swarm of people hounding him but maybe a small phone pic. Would that be too much to ask?

Rob looks happy enough to be safe in the car while swarmed
I am stuck in the quandary of wanting to know every single move he makes and wanting to let him live a normal life. The crazy fan girl keeps wanting to push past the rational level headed mom/doctor side of me.

Isn't that sick? Oh well, I guess a couple of days ago I was talking about buying a T shirt just because Rob might have sweat in it. This almost seems more normal.

I can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring in the Twilight Vancouver world. So excited! Almost worth missing work to look for sets...

More Olympic Mascot Toys

Mr. TC made my day yesterday. Not only did he take the kids out while I stayed home but he came home bearing gifts.

He got me the only McDonald's Olympics Toys that I had been missing.

Goalie Quatchi moves limbs up/down when rolled

Luge Quatchi

When rolled Luge Quatchi gets Asian eyes
(yes, I can say it because I'm Chinese)

I had to line up the whole collection and take a pic - I was overflowing with giddiness.

This is the suggested lineup from the McDonald's toy
"instructions." I'm a sucker for manuals of any kind.

I couldn't help but take a pic with mini-Edward

Quatchi teaching Edward the 2 Man Luge

Seriously 2 Man Luge is a real event. It's not some twisted gay porn activity.

See?

Olympics Mascots On Ice

Remember how in my Olympic hockey post my eldest got to meet Quatchi and Miga and I was sad that our youngest one missed it? Well, we pulled the youngest from school on a sunny Thursday to rectify that situation.

I had just bought the boys some Olympics Mascots hats since they were 50% off at the shop next to my office - score!

This is a photo of my youngest sporting sunglasses and loving his Miga hat. Funny how you can't tell if he's napping or not under all that.

My gangsta Miga boy

He really had fallen asleep. Even the 4 year old gangsta has an entourage to carry him around.

Mr. TC gets a workout being the entourage

As promised we trudged through the throng of people and made it to Robson Square - better known as GE Plaza during the Olympics. They've got a free outdoor skating rink with $3 skate rentals. A good deal and I'm happy they brought this rink back after many years without it.

Vancouver Art Gallery all dolled up
- looks like Vivienne Tam did it don't you think?

You know Mother Nature has a strange sense of humour when there are cherry blossoms out during the 'Winter' Olympics. She usually saves them for the Cherry Blossom Festival in the spring.

By the way, there is a Zip Trek line going above Robson Square. It's about 6 stories over this major social hub in Vancouver and people travel over 550 feet across. And you get to zoom in the sky across all these people while strapped into a harness for free. Which of course means massive lines (like 4 hours and over).

Hope the logos don't wear off the glass too quickly

Anyways, back to the Mascot skate. Canadian kids spend a lot of time at the ice rink. Thank goodness they love Zambonis and any other form of ice cleaning machine. It keeps them busy while waiting.

After they cleared the ice they put up an inflatable staging area at the other end of the rink. Thank goodness we guess properly where to stand because you couldn't see anything from the other side.

See those people behind the barricade? Sucks to be them

Finally the mascots came out and there were major cheers. Most of us had been standing for about 40 minutes, not too bad but a long wait for the kids.

They each did a lap walking around and hugging almost every kid who was by the rail. It was awesome! My son was in heaven and had his arms out the whole time just waiting for his hug.

First came Quatchi

He is gigantic

Acting oh so shy - they've got the
meek Asian bit down pat

Then Sumi

Sumi totally hams it up for the camera

Doesn't it look like he's giving you the finger?

And lastly, my sons favourite, Miga!

Too busy trying to keep my son from climbing
over the rail to take a good photo

They eventually came up with a dance that seemed to fit Vancouver. Lots of blues, greens, and sealife. The costumes were quirky but the kids loved them.

These glowing guys remind me of earplugs

Jellyfish

Hockey Quatchi came out to play too

My son left with an awesome smile on his face but the one question all the kids had was "Where is Mukmuk?" I told my son "Mukmuk is having a nap because he's so little." He seemed to buy it.

Here are some around Robson Square pics that I thought to throw in as well

Can you tell I love these hats?

The entrance to Pacific Centre Shopping Mall gets
turned into an igloo

With matching polar bears outside

Throng of people at GE Plaza just hanging out

And my favourite sign for the day should have been this - the biggest Canadian Flag in the world

World's Biggest Canadian Flag
corner of Georgia and Howe Street

Or even this one

But instead it was this one - it made me go back through the crowd with my cell phone.

Okay, going to Women's Hockey Semi-final tomorrow night with Mr. TC and both kids. Wish us luck.
